"Expectancy" - a poem story for expecting parents.
At the beginning of 2023 I found out I was pregnant and it changed the way I moved in the world. Everything seemed to slow down and I found myself simplifying and editing my life and protecting my energy. I also struggled with the mental anticipation of waiting, it seemed like an eternity through the ten months until my due date. So I wrote poems about learning how to float in the waiting, accepting the passage of time, bathing in the sun on the porch, watching the seasons and feeling my body change.
Out of the poems came two books - "Rebirth" and "Expectancy". "Expectancy" is a visual story of the seasons and experiences throughout the different trimesters of my pregnancy. Rereading it brings me into the moment, grounds me to pay attention to the small movements of the earth through Spring, Summer and moving into Fall. It makes me slow down, go inside and connect with the life inside of me.
While it's themed more towards expecting parents, I find it also serves for those who need to cocoon or perhaps be enveloped by the loving energy of a mother.

The book includes 47 poems with optional color or black and white covers. The cover art is a drawing of Black Sands Beach in Northern California. I visited it in the middle of my pregnancy with my best friend her daughter. The sound of the ocean receding through the black rocks was like a soothing rain stick, it was also the only time I was able to lay on my stomach as I carved out a large hole in the sand for my belly to rest in. It's a memory I won't forget.
